John Zorn (born 1953-09-02) is a Jewish composer and saxophonist from New York. Throughout his incredibly prolific and ongoing career he has
made an astounding amount of music of all sorts. Zorn's work not only misses but intentionally evades genre categorization, while
simultaneously using "genre" as a tool and building block of musical composition. Zorn spent a part of his life in Japan and became involved
with underground Japanese music legends such as ∈Y∋ (known at the time as Yamatsuka Eye), Otomo Yoshihide, and Haino Keiji.
Zorn's work is very special to me primarily because I find that his musical instinct speaks deeply to my own. I have been profoundly
influenced by his music and it has broadened my horizons significantly since I first listened to Naked City (1990) around 2023.
I have discovered many wonderful musicians and styles of music through him and have listened to many of his compositions more than I can
count. John Zorn was my direct inspiration to pick up the alto saxophone, as well as a large part of wanting to compose and
make music in general.
I hope I can convey my enthusiasm and love for this work on this page and hopefully inspire that enthusiasm in someone else.
